Saddell Abbey

Saddell Abbey

Saddell Abbey was a Cistercian monastery founded in 1207 by Ragnall, son of Somairle mac Gille Brigte. It was established by monks from Mellifont Abbey in Ireland.

It is reputed to be haunted, possibly by the monks that once occupied the land. Some claim that they may have been upset that their gravestones were used to build the fireplace in Saddell Castle.
